CheckStress is a unique solution to the old problem of project delays caused by "back and forth" piping layout design iterations between the Design and Engineering departments. Simple and elegant, CheckStress' graphically intuitive interface helps the designer produce code-compliant designs in the first iteration, dramatically reducing the project execution time and the total elapsed time.

Problem - Project Delays
It is common practice worldwide for piping designers to route pipes considering mainly space, process and flow constraints (such as pressure drop) and accommodate other requirements arising from constructability, operability and reparability.
Unfortunately, often pipe stress requirements are not sufficiently considered while routing and supporting piping systems, especially in providing adequate flexibility to absorb expansion or contraction of pipes due to thermal loads. So, when “as designed” piping systems are given to pipe stress engineers for analysis, they soon realize the systems are “stiff” and suggest routing changes to make the systems more flexible. Piping designers, in turn, make routing changes and send the revised layout back to the engineers to check for compliance again.
Such “back and forth” design iterations between layout and stress departments continue until a suitable layout and support scheme is arrived at, resulting in an undesirable increase in project execution time thereby increasing project costs.
Problem Becomes Worse
In recent years, to increase plant output, the operating pressures and temperatures in operating plants have been increasing.
Higher operating pressure: Increases pipe wall thickness, which in turn, increases piping stiffness, making the system "stiffer."
Higher operating temperature: Applied on such a “stiffer” system increases pipe thermal stresses and support loads.
Overall effect: An already undesirable problem (project delay) is now made worse.
Solution: Nip in the bud!
Piping designers need to make the piping layout as flexible as they can at the time of routing to substantially reduce the number of design iterations required between piping design and stress departments.
Benefit #1: Huge time savings during design stage
Benefit #2: A more flexible system from the onset that can take higher operating temperatures and pressures.
Enter CheckStress
As an add-on pipe stress check software for 3D Plant Design systems such as PDMS, CADMATIC etc., it helps designers to produce “Code Compliant” pipe routing during layout stage as a first level stress check. So, by using CheckStress, the designer sends “Code Compliant” piping systems to pipe stress engineers for further detailed analysis and stress report preparation.
Presently, CheckStress is available on two 3D plant design systems.
• AVEVA's PDMS
• Elomatic's CADMATIC
1. "The design quality will improve totally since using Checkstress will give designer finger tip feeling of what good design looks like."
2. "I love it. It is available at your fingertips. There is so little effort required to validate your design, if in doubt."
Nov 26, 07: CheckStress was received enthusiastically at Plant Design Users Group (PDUG) meeting in Karlstad, Sweden.
